This Week in Awesome!

08.20.2010

This week saw so many cool things! Manly in the internet. For one, Facebook decided that it’s cool for ALL your friends to know where you are ALL THE TIME (?!?!?!?!). That’s right!! With Facebook Places, you can now tag your location and even your friends can tag you. So if you lied to your friends and told them you can’t go out, just because you secretly wanted to go to the Ice Capades, well now your little 14 year-old cousin can be all like “I was sooo happy to see my cousin at the Ice Capades!! He looked especially cute when he cryed :-( ” on her wall.

And yes, she can tag you all through that! Awesome!! So now, not only people can tag our pictures and our profiles and pages, they can also let everyone know where you are. I won’t weight-in into the subject (although, it does seem like I have) but there have been many articles for and against this feature. I’ll let all of you be the judge.

On the brighter side of things, did anyone catch that hoax by TheChive.com? It was pretty awesome. Basically, making fun of this whole quitting craze, brought to you by a certain Jet Blue flight attendant. Check it out at their site!

Also, you can now (finally) see the entire version of the Star Wars Uncut Movie! It’s particularly exciting to us, as one of our own participates in the feature!

It’s also really exciting to now that it’s now been nominated to an Emmy! Nice going, Davis! You’ll be a super “Star” (Wars?)!

Well, that’s our week! Now, go out and get some sun or something. You’re getting to pale from all the staying inside and watching a computer screen all day.

Lastly, I’ll leave you with the FunnyorDie.com exclusive: “Pranah 3D: For Your Consideration”.

“The Social Network” Teaser Trailer

06.28.2010

While status updates, semi-embarrassing photos, “Liking” and commenting on wall posts (and now you can “Like” the comments on wall posts, which is of course earth-shattering news), and the other daily minutiae of Facebook might not exactly seem cinema-worthy, the actual story of the site itself warrants more examination.

Director David Fincher’s adaptation of The Social Network hits theaters this October, and Sony Pictures has just released the first teaser trailer for the film. Jesse Eisenberg plays Harvard programmer-turned billionaire Mark Zuckerberg, who, as the tag line to the film goes, apparently has a few enemies. We’ll be interested here at Apex to see how the film turns out. In the meantime, we’re going to go poke people and play more Farmville.

Summertime Rooftop Pool Parties

06.12.2009

getupgetdowninvite.jpg

Hmm, I like summer. And I like rooftops. And pools. And I also like parties! Go figure.

That all makes me excited for NYC’s Gansevoort Hotel, who with promoters Matthew Assante and Dustin Terry, launched a fun new brunch and rooftop pool party called Get Up, Get Down. It goes down every weekend, on both Saturday’s (noon – 8pm) and Sunday’s (noon – till the last person’s standing), until Memorial Day!

The St. Tropez themed party has DJs, bottle service, tropical drinks, a brunch menu and of course, the pool – a nice little recipe for some fun in the city! Check out the invite here for more info…

(this is another cool project Apex is working that you all should know about and come out to!)

Get Terminated

04.8.2009

 apexterminated.jpg

I’ve probably heard about the new Terminator movie at least once a week since it’s been announced, courtesy our Fearless Leader, Josh. I sent him a link to TerminateYourself.com with a note saying “your next twenty minutes are gone.” I was right.

I could pretend to tell you how we had an in-depth discussion about how great of an online marketing tool this was, and how it was a really smart use of the brand. But really, Apex just got terminated.

Dan Aykroyd Presents: Crystal Head Vodka

10.3.2008

Dan Aykroyd has been known to say some crazy stuff. He’s also able to say something so completely nuts that you can’t tell whether he’s serious or not. Therefore, I bring you Dan introducing his newest venture: Crystal Head Vodka.

It’s so pure, they quadruple filtered it. Through freaking diamonds.

My friend Jen is convinced this is the beginning of Ghostbusters 3′s viral campaign, and I can see it: the Ghostbusters all become known as C-list celebrities who will appear on any infomercial for any paranormal-ish luxury good they can. Ain’t it Cool says two of the writers from “The Office” are in line to co-write, which makes me interested. There’s also that Ghostbusters video game that should be coming out soon. I need to go back and watch the first one movie again, as it’s only gotten better with age. The second… not so much.

Kung Fu!

Ah, you clever little viral marketing people!

I don’t know where this Kung Fu Panda poster is and I’m not sure who is behind it, but whoever you are, give yourself a well deserved pat on the back because this is awesome.

I hope they gave you a raise.

The Watchmen are Coming

07.17.2008

 watchmen.jpg

“Watchmen is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are a part of the fabric of every day society, and the ‘Doomsday Clock’ – which charts the USA’s tension with the Soviet Union – is permanently set at five minutes to midnight.”

Dark? Yes. Can I wait? Not at all. Check out the trailer here.

WALL-E!!!

06.30.2008

wall-e-2.jpg

I’m finally going to see WALL-E tonight and I can’t wait!

Besides being the cutest robot around, WALL-E makes the best (and most adorable) sound effects ever! Here are a few reasons why you must see this movie too:

“The idea that a company in the business of mainstream entertainment would make something as creative, substantial and cautionary as “WALL·E” has to raise your hopes for humanity.” – Washington Post

“We’ve grown accustomed to expecting surprises from Pixar, but “Wall-E” surely breaks new ground.” -NY Times

“This is getting to sound like a broken record: Pixar Animation Studios has just topped itself.” -Hollywood Reporter

Ahhh, so excited!

Funsize Friday 5/23

05.23.2008

blank.jpg

Seriously? It’s really almost the end of May? How did this happen! Outrage! At least it’s getting warm out, and here’s some of what happened this week you may have missed.

- Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of “Meh” – I saw it last night, didn’t love it. Didn’t hate it. Worth seeing, just don’t expect wide-eyed wonder like the first time you saw the original Indy movies. Plus, you’re not 8 years old now, so I guess no Indy underoos this time around.

- Netflix Announces Streaming Movies on Your TV – The technogeek in me needs one. Which means almost all of me needs one.

- Pacman: The Movie – It’s coming. Be terrified.

- David Cook Wins American Idol – I’m overjoyed. Not for David Cook, I’m just glad we get our yearly summer respite from AI mania.

- River to River Festival Dates Announced – Including a free Wire show next week that I just found out about and is causing me to have difficulty breathing.

- Wii Fit Released – I picked it up, and I am a picture of perfect physical health after playing it for a week. Of course, I was before this week, but that’s beside the point.

Funsize Bonus! Baseball season’s getting rolling, I really need to go to a Mets game. But if I ever see a guy throw a pitch like this, I will love that person forever. Amazing.

Sex and the City Trailers Are Boring!

05.20.2008

Like most other girls on the planet, I’m looking forward to the new Sex and the City movie.

I was excited when I heard some SATC trailers popped up on YouTube, except that when I watched they clips…well, needless to say, I was underwhelmed.

Oh well. It’s probably because I feel like I’ve already seen the movie, what with all the papparazi shots and coverage it’s received so far.
