Happy 2nd Birthday, Apex

06.25.2009

 053edit.jpg

This week Apex celebrated its 2nd birthday in the swankiest way possible – on the roof of the Atlas building, partying it up and taking in the (astoundingly gorgeous) view. We dropped by to check out Mishka, who played a great set.

From the start, Apex has made it’s highest priority to stand apart from the crowd and do something different. From Seth Godin’s blog post yesterday:

The only way your organization is going to make an impact is to market in the way only you can. Not by following some expert’s rules or following the herd, but by doing it in the way that works. For you. Don’t worry about someone else’s invented standards for new media, invent your own.

From setting up a live videogame event for a furniture company, to creating a blog entirely around the idea of a band’s song, to making an interactive game for a rock band based off one that usually refers to a certain actor, our goal has always been to find unique, interesting ways to get our client’s messages seen. We’ve got some exciting things coming around the corner, and the second half of 2009 will prove to be pretty interesting.

Paint That Sh*t Gold!

05.9.2008

Atmosphere released their sixth full-length studio album, When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold, on April 22.

Besides having an awesome album title, they’ve got a pretty cool website to go along with it that I just found out about. It’s called Paint That Shit Gold and it lets you tag any website on the internet.

I decided to “tag” this blog and as you can see about, I put about as much crap (you know, ponies, helicopters, sunglasses, lightning bolts, etc) as possible on it!

If you want to see something rad though, check out what this guy did…

Free Coldplay Download

04.29.2008

viva-la-vida1.jpg

Coldplay has a new album, titled Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, due out June 16 and they’re jumping on the free music bandwagon (yay consumers!).

They are releasing the first single, “Violet Hill” for free today on their website (and a week earlier than you can buy it anywhere else)!

But the free doesn’t stop there…they are going to play a free show at Madison Square Garden in New York on June 23 (following a free show in London on June 16). And if that’s not enough, you get a free “Violet Hill” 7″, with an exclusive track called “A Spell A Rebel Yell”, if you buy the May NME.

Viral marketing just keeps getting better and better!

Lions and Tigers and Pranks, Oh My!

04.1.2008

It’s April Fool’s day today and that means trust no one on the internet! Except for Apex, of course! We’d never lie to you here.

Here are just a few examples of the web trickery going on today:

-YouTube Rick Rolled all its users [update: we might kill someone if we get rickrolled one more time!]

-In Australia, you can google-search 24 hours into the future (cue Twilight Zone music) with G’Day

-Google and Virgin will make a human settlement on Mars (click here to watch the video on TechCrunch)

-IGN premieres the trailer for new Legend Of Zelda movie!

-Xbox has some new gear up for grabs, like this wireless helmet (make sure to click ‘Learn More’)

-Gizmodo shows love for Mr. T on almost every single blog post.

-Daily Candy writes about Famous Flakes, a store that sells vials of your favorite celeb’s skin and hair.

-Tumblr is Tumbler (but flickr is still flickr)

-AskMen and ViagraPlus

-Joystiq has new Wii game: Super Pii Pii Brothers (video)

-Ben Gibbard, of Death Cab, has a new band called Just Jazzin’

…we’ll keep updating this list as the day goes on, so check back!

Support Small Businesses!!

03.26.2008

gramstand.jpg

Apex Exposure is a new-but-ever-so-quickly-expanding company and we wholeheartedly support the success and growth of other independent companys!

The Gramstand* is an independently owned, NYC tea cafe (they serve coffee too) and art space in the East Village (214 Ave. A b/w 13th and 14th) that we at Apex like to frequent.

Besides having amazingly unique teas, the cafe is a wonderful supporter of local NYC talent, hosting art shows and musician showcases. If you haven’t been there yet, definitely check it out!

That said, the store is a finalist over at Ideablob’s March competition, and the winner takes home $10,000! The cafe could use the money and it’d mean a lot if you could help them out, vote for them here and support small businesses in general!

Thanks!

*full disclosure: a few friends work here

More Free Music. This Time, Thank The Charlatans

03.3.2008

the-charlatans.jpg

There is absolutely no reason to have a ‘Case of the Mondays’ today, thanks to everyone deciding to give away their music for free!

The Charlatans, like Nine Inch Nails, are giving away their new album, You Cross My Path, for free today, via Xfm.

Said lead singer Tim Burgess, “We always knew this album was gonna be given away for free, even before we started writing so we wanted to make it the best album we’ve ever made. This isn’t a case of left over tracks and b-sides, we wanted to give our fans a quality record.”

Download the album here.

The Grammy’s

02.11.2008

The Grammy’s impressed me this year. Instead of ‘boring this boring that, blah blah blah’, they were full of great performances.

Alicia Key’s is ‘retardedly talented’ as my boss Ben said best.  I couldn’t agree more. She was a great opener for the show.

Amy Winehouse is back (!!!!) and hopefully for good. She sounded great, looked great and how could you not believe her when she sang ‘I told ya I was trouble, ya know I’m no good’.

Kanye was on point as usual. It’s nice to see him truly embracing his inner hipster. The mom tribute was very touching…I think I even spotted his mom’s name shaved into the back of his head? Check out Davis’ post below to see his performance w/ Daft Punk.

Carrie Underwood did a cool version of ‘Before He Cheats’. The girl’s got talent no doubt, but the peformance was a bit over the top for me.

The antithesis of Underwood was Feist, who was a breath of fresh air with her performance and appearance. I’m not gonna lie though, I kind of wanted to see her bust out with the awesomely awkward/adorable 1,2,3,4 video choreography.
