This week Apex celebrated its 2nd birthday in the swankiest way possible – on the roof of the Atlas building, partying it up and taking in the (astoundingly gorgeous) view. We dropped by to check out Mishka, who played a great set.
From the start, Apex has made it’s highest priority to stand apart from the crowd and do something different. From Seth Godin’s blog post yesterday:
The only way your organization is going to make an impact is to market in the way only you can. Not by following some expert’s rules or following the herd, but by doing it in the way that works. For you. Don’t worry about someone else’s invented standards for new media, invent your own.
From setting up a live videogame event for a furniture company, to creating a blog entirely around the idea of a band’s song, to making an interactive game for a rock band based off one that usually refers to a certain actor, our goal has always been to find unique, interesting ways to get our client’s messages seen. We’ve got some exciting things coming around the corner, and the second half of 2009 will prove to be pretty interesting.
Besides having an awesome album title, they’ve got a pretty cool website to go along with it that I just found out about. It’s called Paint That Shit Gold and it lets you tag any website on the internet.
I decided to “tag” this blog and as you can see about, I put about as much crap (you know, ponies, helicopters, sunglasses, lightning bolts, etc) as possible on it!
If you want to see something rad though, check out what this guy did…
Coldplay has a new album, titled Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, due out June 16 and they’re jumping on the free music bandwagon (yay consumers!).
They are releasing the first single, “Violet Hill” for free today on their website (and a week earlier than you can buy it anywhere else)!
But the free doesn’t stop there…they are going to play a free show at Madison Square Garden in New York on June 23 (following a free show in London on June 16). And if that’s not enough, you get a free “Violet Hill” 7″, with an exclusive track called “A Spell A Rebel Yell”, if you buy the May NME.
Viral marketing just keeps getting better and better!
Apex Exposure is a new-but-ever-so-quickly-expanding company and we wholeheartedly support the success and growth of other independent companys!
The Gramstand* is an independently owned, NYC tea cafe (they serve coffee too) and art space in the East Village (214 Ave. A b/w 13th and 14th) that we at Apex like to frequent.
Besides having amazingly unique teas, the cafe is a wonderful supporter of local NYC talent, hosting art shows and musician showcases. If you haven’t been there yet, definitely check it out!
That said, the store is a finalist over at Ideablob’s March competition, and the winner takes home $10,000! The cafe could use the money and it’d mean a lot if you could help them out, vote for them here and support small businesses in general!
Said lead singer Tim Burgess, “We always knew this album was gonna be given away for free, even before we started writing so we wanted to make it the best album we’ve ever made. This isn’t a case of left over tracks and b-sides, we wanted to give our fans a quality record.”
The Grammy’s impressed me this year. Instead of ‘boring this boring that, blah blah blah’, they were full of great performances.
Alicia Key’s is ‘retardedly talented’ as my boss Ben said best. I couldn’t agree more. She was a great opener for the show.
Amy Winehouse is back (!!!!) and hopefully for good. She sounded great, looked great and how could you not believe her when she sang ‘I told ya I was trouble, ya know I’m no good’.
Carrie Underwood did a cool version of ‘Before He Cheats’. The girl’s got talent no doubt, but the peformance was a bit over the top for me.
The antithesis of Underwood was Feist, who was a breath of fresh air with her performance and appearance. I’m not gonna lie though, I kind of wanted to see her bust out with the awesomely awkward/adorable 1,2,3,4 video choreography.
