Seriously? It’s really almost the end of May? How did this happen! Outrage! At least it’s getting warm out, and here’s some of what happened this week you may have missed.
- Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of “Meh” – I saw it last night, didn’t love it. Didn’t hate it. Worth seeing, just don’t expect wide-eyed wonder like the first time you saw the original Indy movies. Plus, you’re not 8 years old now, so I guess no Indy underoos this time around.
- Wii Fit Released – I picked it up, and I am a picture of perfect physical health after playing it for a week. Of course, I was before this week, but that’s beside the point.
Funsize Bonus! Baseball season’s getting rolling, I really need to go to a Mets game. But if I ever see a guy throw a pitch like this, I will love that person forever. Amazing.
Another Friday, another list of junk I’m too lazy to actually write about. This week’s list: Single Serving Sites. Websites that do one thing, and do it very well. Here’s a few of my personal favorites.
It seemed like every time I read a headline this week, my only reaction was confusion and disbelief at how strange people can be. Some crazy stuff went down, so this week’s Funsize Friday has been postponed for a more appropriate title.
- Sorority Branding Pledges with a Hot Fork? – Are you serious? Also, worth reading just for the phrase “…causing our sisters to obviously react and throw her head into the wall.”
- 7 Year Old Charged with Grand Theft Auto – Apparently stealing your grandmother’s Durango and hitting 4 cars is “unusual behavior for a 7-year-old.” No kidding? And speaking of grand theft auto…
- M83 – Graveyard Girl – (Pitchfork.tv link) It’s like a mini John Hughes movie and officially my personal Jam of the Summer ’08. Secondly, I finally got a chance to play with P-fork.tv and have decided it’s completely awesome.
- Leaked Trailer for new Star Wars cartoon – Considering Episode II was entirely CGI in the first place, this really doesn’t look too different, just less Ewan McGregor.
- South Park Fixes the Internet – It really does work just like that. I’m glad to know the interwebs are controlled by a giant linksys router.
Funsized Bonus!FAIL blog because it gives me a serious case of the giggles.
- Free Music Streams = Increased Revenue – Last.fm’s ad-supported free music streams have lead to a 119% increase of Amazon sales. Who knew – allow people to listen to music they like and they’ll purchase it.
- New Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds – For some reason, I’ve never listened to Nick Cave. Where have I been? This song is awesome. The videos they’ve made to promote the record are pretty great, too.
- Flickr Unrolls Video Content – Uploading is limited to Pro users, and only 90 seconds of video content at that. They’re dubbing them “long photos.”
- Music Tax? – Great article, which can be summed up that if everyone is required to pay for music, creativity in music no longer matters. Plus, $5 per month spread out over every single taxpayer? Ridiculous.
- Radiohead Remix Project (iTunes link) – Interesting idea. Maybe not the best implementation ($6 to enter a remix contest?), but still very cool. I especially like that an early purchase gets you a premade GarageBand file to work from. PS – Snag the awesome Holy F*ck remix here.
- MySpace Music Announced – While MySpace is certainly bound to take over all our lives soon, this does seem like pretty convenient way to listen to music on the site, something I already wind up doing.
- April Fools was awesome – For my April Fools, I told my wife I was quitting my job and taking my speed metal/free jazz band on the road full-time. She didn’t laugh.
I was out of the office Friday and very busy this weekend, so I forgot to update you on what happened last week in lovely easy-to-digest bite sizes. Much like the candy bars the Easter Bunny brought me.
- Mission of Burma re-issues. Very excited about these. Also, the vinyl + digital download card might be the best music format choice ever. Speaking of…
-New Elvis Costello album being released vinyl-only, with a digital download. We were rocking some My Aim is True this morning in the office.
- Guitar Hero: on Tour for the DS announced. I can only imagine turning into that guy if you tried to play this on the subway during your morning commute.
- CBC release show for free on BitTorrent. Did anyone download this?
Fun Size Bonus! In honor of my laptop’s hard drive failing (don’t sweat it, I’ve got everything backed up), the computer says no.
- South by Southwest was this week. Austin was surely party central, but we had our own mini-SXSW by listening online to KEXP’s live sets. From what I heard, Vampire Weekend and Bon Iver’s sets were both really solid.
- Super Smash Bros. Brawl came out this week for the Wii. My social life for the next few weeks has been destroyed.
- Apparently, Gibson isn’t happy with Activision and their Guitar Hero series. Even though Gibson has been involved with the past three games, they just now decided to worry about a possible patent infringement. Isn’t it a bit late at this point?
- Trailer for the new Incredible Hulk movie. Looks…. kinda boring, actually.
A bunch of stuff that I’d want to cover, but I’m feeling way too lazy for them to get their own post.
- Muse announce new live CD/DVD, HAARP, showcasing two dates at Wembley Stadium, comes out April 1. The trailer is here and looks awesome. Of course, I’m such a dork I bought a non-region DVD player so I could get their first live DVD.
