The Wall Street Journal tells me that Grand Theft Auto IV made $500 MILLION in first week sales. Lemme break this down for you…people spent half-a-BILLION!! dollars on a video game in just 7 days. That’s an insanely stupid amount of money spent to sit on your couch in front of the tv. That said, it does look pretty cool… Motley Crue debuts new track on Rock Band04.16.2008 By reading this site, I’m sure it’s pretty obvious we like some video games. Coincidentally, we also like the rock music. When those two get together, lemme tell ya, it’s our cup o’ tea. So the news that Motley Crue are debuting their new single “Saints of Los Angeles” on Rock Band stikes us as being pretty awesome. The track is available for download on the Xbox 360 now and will come out for the PS3 tomorrow. (via Prefix) Strong Bad coming to WiiWare04.10.2008 Strong Bad, the luchador-masked-and-boxing-gloved antagonist from Homestar Runner, is going to be coming to the Nintendo Wii’s upcoming WiiWare service. Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People, in addition to having the best name ever, will be released in five downloadable episodes, with a new episode coming out each month starting in June. The game will be made up of dialog-based puzzles, as well as the standard Strong Bad gags such as emails and prank phone calls. If this thing includes anything near as epic as Peasant’s Quest, consider me hooked. (via Kotaku) GTA IV to destroy all in its path, including superheroes.03.12.2008 Grand Theft Auto 4 comes out April 29th, and it’s going to be massive. Viral marketing is everywhere, lawsuits will soon be flying, and everyone and their brother will (hopefully) be buying it. Also coming out around the same time is the highly anticipated Iron Man movie. No relation? Think again, say some analysts. Apparently, Hollywood blamed Halo 3 for poor box office numbers last September, and that was for a game on one major system, while GTAIV is coming out for both the Xbox 360 & PS3. Either you side with the millionaire turned hero/robot or join the obsessive video game fans, one thing is certain come May – the nerds win. By the way, if you haven’t seen it yet, the new trailer for Iron Man looks amazing. I think Robert Downey Jr. might be my new personal hero. The UK likes video games more than music.03.3.2008
While digital downloads may be on the rise here in the US, it seems that business across the Atlantic is changing. According to Entertainment Retailers’ Association director general Kim Bayley:
I was aware the gaming industry had a huge year in 2007, but I didn’t realize just how huge it was. Then again, music and games have tended to go hand-in-hand lately. (via Kotaku) |
